John Woodhead’s Gallery
This is a memorial gallery to celebrate the work of John Woodhead, one of the founding members of the Club. John sadly passed away on the 31st of July 2018, aged 88.
While he wasn’t very active in submitting images to competitions or exhibitions more recently, from the 1950s through early 2000s he used to regularly enter prints to both internal and external competitions. In particular to the Yorkshire Photographic Union’s Annual Exhibition where he had a number of prints accepted over the years.
John shot a variety of subjects, with local scenes, portraiture and record shots of churches and cathedrals (and their interior detailing) making up the bulk of his portfolio.
John was adept in the darkroom making prints using a variety of papers, toners and techniques including bromoil. He skilfully dodged, burned and retouched with a pencil in some cases, to create the effect he desired.
The works presented here are digitisations of some of John’s many home made darkroom prints.
